Not that impressed. Took itself too seriously? And Van was really annoying at the beginning, all mopey and feeling sorry for herself. After a while I wanted her to just GET OVER IT ALREADY. I also felt like some of the characters were little more than cliches at times, and a lot of Larkin's "jokes" just did not land for me at all. She also has this incredibly annoying tendency to write out details of a scene (mostly dialogue) that are completely unnecessary.
"Hey, Van, how are you?"
"I am good, how are you?"
"I am also good. Would you like some coffee?"
"Yes, I would love some coffee."
"Cream and sugar?"
"Yes, two sugars."
"Thank you so much." etc, etc.
On top of all that, I listened to this on audiobook, and Julia Whelan's performance was not great. That might actually be the thing that's clouding this review the most, so I might revisit the book in a couple of years, or when it's inevitably made into an adorable rom-com starring please God, anybody other than Katherine Heigl.
Three stars, though, because Joe was awesome, and I want Alex to be a real person so I can marry him and have his babies.
