Even though this book didn't really have a plot and it was mostly set-up for what's to come in books two and three, and even though each of the seven POV characters are unlikable scumbags, I enjoyed it nonetheless. Abercrombie takes pride in smashing conventions (there are no maps and absolutely no exposition; we learn about the world as the characters do) and the fight scenes are bloody and epic.
So, worth it if you like fantasy and gore/violence, and I'm hoping the second two in the trilogy can take the story a little farther.
